About the Author
Hamilton Parkway is a British West Indian writer and researcher who has dedicated over two decades to studying Black history, culture, and intersectionality. His work focuses on uncovering overlooked names and pivotal events that have shaped Black identity and culture.
Parkway draws inspiration from the words of Marcus Garvey: “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.” This quote sparked his lifelong mission to create a body of work that educates and inspires not only Black children, but anyone interested in the rich tapestry of Black history, culture, heritage, and achievement.Through this book, he hopes to inspire people of color to dream boldly and pursue their goals, leaving an indelible mark on the pages of history. For even if immediate recognition eludes them, history will remember—and books will preserve their stories.
As a person of color, Parkway holds close the African proverb “Each One Teach One,”which originated during slavery in the United States when enslaved Africans were denied education. When someone learned to read or write, it became their responsibility to teach another. This principle of sharing knowledge for the betterment of the community is central to Parkway’s work.
In this tradition, every entry in his book highlights Black excellence and triumph. He believes
readers will find at least one story that resonates deeply, serving as a wellspring of
inspiration.
Parkway continues his quest to educate and inspire with the knowledge he’s gained through his research. His latest project, “Interracial,” explores the complexities of interracial relationships from around the world.
Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s I can remember that most of the people that I admired, my heroes and role models were
mainly white. It was as if whiteness was a requisite for success.
At that time little did I know that even the richest man who ever lived was black.
